Renowned radio personality and events MC Gaetano Kaggwa who has been making waves in both the wedding industry and the corporate world revealed he stopped emceeing at weddings because they are more intimate and require someone from the family to deliver a more personalized experience on the big day.
In a sit down with Swangz Avenue podcast, Gaetano Kaggwa revealed that he charges a high fee for people who insist on him doing their weddings because he requires a significant amount of time and effort which includes attending meetings and asking questions to help understand the couple’s story to deliver a memorable experience.
“You want me to emcee for that event, I will give you my charge, many people will say that charge is too much. I know it is too much but you do not have to use me. If you want me, that is my charge because I know my worth. When I started emceeing it was 2 million back in the day so there is no way I’m going to charge this money now. I tell you to use somebody else, I even give you some numbers of some of the people you can use. The thing about marriages, is I don’t really know your story as the bride and groom.
Gaetano Kaggwa argues that close family members have a unique advantage when it comes to telling the story for the couple because they have a deeper understanding of their history, equipping them to craft a captivating narrative.
“It is your family and friends who know your story, so pick a male or a female and let them do it. They have all the inside jokes about the uncles, the aunties, how you met, they can really use that. Now I have to sit down, I ask many questions, go to meetings, and whatnot.
Why do I charge you for all of that when you have somebody who is a family member and can do it for free and with love and let them tell your story? Otherwise, me, it is commercial, I will do all the things you want me to do but it doesn’t have the same gravity. That is why I generally don’t do weddings,” Gaetano Kaggwa said.
