Young musician Champion Ogudeo has shocked many after he declined a scholarship offer from Counsel Nalukoola Luyimbazi, who had pledged to sponsor his entire primary school education. The surprise decision came in light of Champion Ogudo expressing his desire to return to school, citing financial constraints.
Following his expulsion from Alien Skin’s Makindye-based Fangone Forest, the youngster and his brother have struggled to make ends meet. Counsel Nalukoola’s offer seemed a lifeline, with plans to enroll Champion Ogudo at Takuba Primary School.
However, Ogudo failed to show up at the school interview on Tuesday, revealing that his brother had secured an alternative sponsor to cover his school fees in a different school. Counsel Nalukoola respected their decision, prioritizing Champion Ogudos’ education above all.
On Monday we went to Takuba Primary School and talked to the directors and stakeholders and agreed that he would come to school. He was meant to go there the next day for the interview but to our surprise, when we had a talk with his big brother, he said they had got another school to take him to.
It is possible that the person who had volunteered to take him back to school saw us taking the step, he hurried and did the same. But that is a good thing. It is not that we never had anything to use our money for but our aim was to help the young creative to go back and attain his education.
Champion Ogudo is special, a popular child. Such a person needs special attention especially with his talent and popularity. He needs to be taken care of and given a proper education, feeding, shelter, dressing and protected not to go astray. So, when we got the news about his other arrangement, we had no problem with it because they looked like they were more interested in the other option, Counsel Nalukoola revealed.
Many have questioned Ogudo’s decision, wondering if he will regret turning down Counsel Nalukoola’s offer. The lawyer, however, remains open-minded and says it is possible to give them another chance if they ever come back to him.

You can’t put the blame on Champion Ogudo because he is young and if he ever comes out and says he made a mistake in his decision, we will sit down again. But what we are not willing to do is disturb their family about the decision they made. If they think that it was the right decision, we were not going to fight that, he noted.
