Ykee Benda, A Pass

A Pass blames the media for fallout with Ykee Benda

Musician A Pass, born Alex Bagonza, has blamed the local media for fuelling the beef between him and fellow artist Ykee Benda.

The tension between A Pass and Ykee Benda started years ago after they clashed over Fik Fameica’s flopped concert. They constantly insulted and jabbed each other in different interviews until they decided to settle the matter in the studio with the ‘Turn Up D’ Vibe’ collaboration.

A Pass had his first concert at Serena Hotel, and the only artists who stepped on stage with him were the ones he collaborated with, plus the Warafiki girls, who were the only curtain raisers. Despite having a song with Ykee, he was not invited to perform and didn’t attend either. With this, netizens assumed that the pair still had a brewing battle.

While appearing on Bruno K’s TikTok live stream, A Pass defended himself, noting that he didn’t invite Ykee Benda to perform because he wanted to be the only man on stage.

“I still feel like it would have been nice if he was there; it doesn’t mean he had to perform. Artists like Elijah Kitaka and Azawi with whom I have songs with both bought tables and attended. They did not sing. Artists were free to come and watch but they didn’t need to be on stage,” he said.

A Pass acknowledged that he was previously not on good terms with Ykee Benda, with whom he worked under Badi Music together. He says the rift was fuelled by the media, which kept dragging the beef and ferrying words from both ends.

He, however, confirmed that they made up and have since performed their collaboration on different occasions. Even when they are not seen chit-chatting in public or on social media, A Pass emphasizes that there is no bad blood between them.

“Things are okay between us. We had a problem before but it was all because of the media. Media always brings chaos between us through their lies. During that time, he was marketing his show and insulted me and I was not happy. That is why I insulted him back.

But we talked and aired everything out. We have never had an issue after that. We have even performed our collaboration together,” A Pass said.
