Renowned musician A Pass, real name Alexander Bagonza has come out to address the controversy raised about his collaboration with upcoming artist Gloria Bougie on their song ‘Sagala’ that was released in April this year.
A lot of music critics and social media users have questioned A Pass’ decision to work with Gloria Bugie pointing out concerns about her vocal ability, music delivery, and approach, plus alleged lack of talent.
In an interview, A Pass revealed that he first met Gloria Bougie in 2020, before she began her music career but just putting her vocals on random afrobeat beats. He was drawn to her unique voice and tone, which he believes stands out compared to some of the popular artists.
She has a unique voice, let’s agree to that. When you listen to her songs compared to other popular artists, you will see that she has a nice tone but her voice is not too strong. So, when she comes to sing, the instruments will overpower her and she will end up shouting because she is fighting that, he said.
Gloria Bougie had her first-ever performance on a big stage at Acidic Vokoz’s debut concert but faced intense criticism after he struggled with pitch and tone. Video clips of the performance went viral on social media, with many claiming her music relied on her physical appearance rather than vocal talent.
A Pass, however, shares a different stand, explaining that even experienced artists can struggle with sound and pitch issues during performances. He attributed Gloria’s struggles to the challenges of being overpowered by instruments, leading to vocal strain.
Many top artists who have done it for so long are also flat. This is because most of the time they are fighting with the sound. Music sometimes disturbs when you get on stage because the beats over power your voice. You are trying to be heard and the more you’re not hearing yourself, the more you feel the need to use energy. You end up leaving your natural voice and instead scream. By the time you leave that stage, you have lost your voice, he added.
A Pass also acknowledged that Gloria Bougie may not have been fully prepared for the stage, suggesting she needed more time to develop. He recalled when her management approached him asking for a chance to sing at the Blankets and Wine show which he was headlining and turned them down because he thought she was not ready yet.

There is not too much experience with her, she needs time. She has the talent but she needs time. I told them she was not ready to sing on stage with me. It is not even two months ago and see what people are complaining about. It is the same thing I talked about, he said.
