Ugandan singer Anknown Prosper, real name Yiga Ronnie, has shared how a breakup forced him to switch from hip-hop and dancehall music genres to soul music.
Anknown Prosper is known for releases that resonate with audiences. His music focuses entirely on relationships, love, and heartbreaks, and the profound lyrics convey deep emotions, which are sometimes from his personal experiences.
In an interview with Spark TV, Anknown confessed that when he was starting out his music career, he mainly focused on hip-hop and dancehall genres. Even when he wrote any RnB or soft music, he would put it up for sale for other artists to buy.
“Funny thing, I was a lover and listener of hip-hop music. I used to rap and write hip hop mostly for myself and the soft melodies for other people. I would write RnB songs and put them on the market for other artists to buy,” he noted.

He, however, made the life-changing decision after the girl he was in a relationship with dumped him. Anknown claimed he was in a lot of pain and felt it best to communicate his feelings through music.
At that time, he had already written ‘Doctor’ and decided he would not sell it but release it himself as a way of sending the message to his ex.

“I wrote ‘Doctor’ and kept it in the studio but after the breakup, I realized I was not selling the song. I felt it was best for me to deliver the message myself. It was from the bottom of my heart. From Doctor, Tonelabira and Mutima, I was sending messages to someone that I no longer want to talk about,” he said.
