Work with managers who think beyond the local market – Azawi to artists

Musician Azawi has encouraged fellow artists to always associate and work with managers who think beyond the local borders.

In her submission, the Swangz Avenue star emphasized the importance of stepping outside the local market, noting that there were plenty of opportunities and they shouldn’t limit themselves.

Born Priscilla Zawedde, Azawi was signed by Swangz Avenue in 2019 and has since significantly sored her career both locally and globally, which she attributes to her management. She explained that a number of artists have not got their big breakthrough on international platforms because they cannot think beyond performing on local events.

Several artists are vigorously exploring TikTok to boost their music career. Even when the video app has helped promote their music, Azawi advises them not to be comfortable with this type of fame as it is short lived and unsustainable.

“The industry is at a level where you have to be with a manager who thinks beyond Kampala, Uganda and East Africa if you want to grow as an artist. There are so many opportunities out there; you should not limit yourself to Freedom City, Bandali Rise or anywhere. Just because you have a popular song on TikTok, don’t think it stops there. There is so much you can achieve as an artist.

I’m enjoying my life, I smell nice, I feel so good and get everything I need because of my managers,” she said.

Whereas she thanks her management for the good work they have done for her brand on an international scene, Azawi also claims she has invested in so much effort, something which has made it easier for the label to work with her.

“But I also work hard. As an artist you need to put in the effort to make it easier for your team. There are many women, men, the attention and the fame from the industry. You will get all these but you have to think about your future as an artist; your dreams and aspirations. Let us dream bigger,” she said.
