Benon Mugumbya reveals Irene Ntale’s exit left a scar on Swangz Avenue

Swangz Avenue co-founder Benon Mugumbya has opened up on how Irene Ntale’s decision to quit the label greatly affected them.

Irene joined the prestigious label in 2013 and released several hit songs under their management. The songstress, however, left everyone shocked when she announced her departure from the label in 2017, leaving many unanswered questions behind.

Benon, in an interview with Mr. Henrie, explained that Irene’s departure hurt him because she is such a great talent.

When asked why they, as a label, didn’t fight for her to stay, Benon revealed that they were also surprised by her bold move and couldn’t exactly tell what had forced her to want out of the deal. He says that even to this day, he has never had the chance to sit down and talk to Irene Ntale about what transpired.

“I won’t lie, it hurt us so bad when Irene Ntale left us because she is very talented. She is still one of the most talented Ugandan female artists. I think part of why it hurt us was that her departure was unbelievable. If I tell you that I know why she left, I would be speculating. Even up to now, we have never had that conversation,” Benon explained.

Benon, however, explained that as a group, they came to terms with it and respected Ntale’s decision to leave the label.

“But it is cool, and that is life. I wish things played out differently because it is okay for people to leave; things change, plans change,” he said.
