Controversial comedian Sammy real name Okanya Sam from Da Mighty Family has finally been released from prison, where he was remanded.
According to court documents signed by Her Worship Kyoshabire Caroline, Magistrate Grade One in the presence of State Attorney Mr. Mucunguzi Allan, the case was dismissed having found no case to answer. Sammy was set free and a cash bail of 500,000 was ordered to be returned to him.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, singer Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine joined the section of well-wishers who took to their social media platforms to welcome him back home.
Glad that he’s now out after the trumped-up charges were dismissed. Welcome back comrade. Was glad to speak with you and hear that prison has not broken your resolve. Grateful to everyone who continues to demand for the release of all political prisoners,” Bobi Wine shared.
Sammy was among the youths arrested in the March To Parliament protests that happened in July.

Upon arraignment in Buganda Road Court, comedian Sammy was charged with the offense of common nuisance contrary to section 148(1) of the Penal Code Act. He was then detained in Luzira where he has been since.
