Diamond Oscar, real name Mbabali Oscar, recounts seeking airplay at Sanyu FM before being bounced with the station citing the song’s lack of standard.
While sharing his music journey at GNL Zamba’s podcast, Diamond Oscar recalled when he released his song ‘Amiina Akaaba.’ He targeted both the local and uptown audiences, but when he took it to Sanyu FM, he was disappointed by the reception he received.
Diamond Oscar claims that at the station, he encountered a popular presenter, who bounced him with his song, arguing the song would not suit their target audience.
The presenter allegedly directed him to Akaboozi FM, which is a known Luganda-speaking station.
“That man said the song was good but not Sanyu FM material. He even directed me to the place and I slowly left. I took my song to Akaboozi and they didn’t disappoint me but played it extensively,” he said.
This disappointing encounter was the very last time Oscar visited the station. He, however, is grateful to Capital FM, which he says gave him a chance and played his music.
“Deejay Ronnie (RIP) found me at Ange Noir after they had played my song and invited me for an interview at Capital FM. He passed away one week after our interview but he played my songs extensively. Even when the station was all-English, they played my songs and people loved me,” he said.
