While creatives continue to be bothered about the delay of the Copyright and Neighboring Rights (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Presidential Advisor for Creatives, Eddy Kenzo has given an update saying that it was returned from the Parliamentary Counsel and not only approved but overwhelmingly supported by Cabinet.
According to Eddy Kenzo, the next step was for the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs to publish the Bill in the Gazette and introduce the Bill in Parliament for debate and Enactment. The Ministry of Finance has also confirmed issuing the Certificate of Financial Implication to clear the Bill.
Our wish of having the Copyright and Neighboring Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2024 as a Christmas gift I think has been fulfilled. We are grateful to H.E the President for listening to our concerns and guiding us appropriately.
Let’s patiently wait through the remaining final process and celebrate this achievement together. I thank all of you for the support, love and prayers,” Kenzo shared.
In July 2022, Dr Hilderman who represents Mawokota North was granted leave of parliament to introduce the bill and promised it would be passed in December that year.

Unfortunately, it has been two years since the consultations were done, which has continuously raised eyebrows. While many people considered it a false promise, Eddy Kenzo’s update gives a new and positive direction to their cause.
