Talented teenage singing duo, Esther and Ezekiel Mutesasira shocked their fans and followers during a recent social media live session, hinting at their plans to go solo in 2025. The siblings, known for their harmonious vocals and captivating performances, quoted growth and vocal changes as the primary reasons for their impending separation.
According to Esther, the duo’s vocal development made it challenging to collaborate on certain songs. Ezekiel’s deepening voice which resulted from his growth, could no longer blend with Esther’s signature high notes. The realization led to the difficult decision to go solo.
If Ezekiel and I wake up one day and decide that we are going to go solo. That everyone is going to start doing their own music, will you guys support that?
Whatever you guys say but Ezekiel is so grown and his voice is so deep. He is not that Ezekiel of East Africa Has Got Talent that will hit the notes. Yes, he can still do that but not as good as he used to when he was younger. Now me, on the other side, can still hit those high notes and be a Celine Dion. There are some songs that we can’t sing together now that we have outgrown each other, she said.
Esther and Ezekiel’s musical journey began under the guidance of their mother, gospel artist Julie Mutesasira. The siblings were discovered by their aunt, who recorded their early performances. Their breakthrough came in 2019 when they participated in East Africa’s Got Talent, captivating audiences with their powerful vocals.
Although they did not win the public vote, the judges recognized their potential and selected them to advance to the finals. Esther and Ezekiel delivered a stunning rendition of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston’s ‘When You Believe’, earning them the most votes and securing them the top spot.
Their victory came with a $50,000 cash prize, pushing them to stardom. The duo has since released songs like Katuyimbe Yesu, Something Has To Break, Hallelujah ft. Dre Cali among others.
