Lord Fred Ssebatta, Steve Jean

Fred Sebatta applauds Steve Jean for modernizing Kadongo Kamu, aligning it with today’s music trends

Lord Fred Sebatta has heaped praise on producer Steve Jean, commending him for his enormous contribution to the Kadongo Kamu music genre that had long needed revamping.

During his press conference ahead of his concert to celebrate 40 years in the music industry, the Kadongo Kamu maestro shouted out to the Fenon Records Producer who he says gave the genre a new meaning and modernized it to fit the current trend of music.

Fred Sebatta recounted when he first met Steve Jean to work on his timeless hit ‘Nalwewuuba’. He suggested that they change something in the beats and rhythm of the song, an idea Sebatta did not welcome.

After arguing about it, Fred Sebatta finally gave in and allowed the producer to do what he does best, and when Steve Jeane presented the finished sample, it was nothing short of splendid.

After three days, he sent me the sample he had worked on and it was amazing. He worked on my timeless song ‘Nalwewuuba’ but you can see people dancing to it in clubs flowing smoothly without tampering with the beats, Fred Sebatta said.

Fred Sebatta embraced modernity and encouraged Kadongo Kamu artists to allow the genre to evolve without changing the original rhythm.

The genre needs modernizing. If we did not evolve, maybe we would still be backward. There are many songs that I have remodeled into different genres just to bring them up to speed with the trends. The only person that bothers me is that one who claims to sing Kadongo Kamu but with no single touch or rhythm of the genre in the said song. This waters down all our efforts of fighting for the genre

Steve Jean together with the late Kizito Timothy went ahead and worked on the famous ‘Doole Yo’mwana’ the song that is unique and is being played to date.

Lord Fred Ssebata is expected to take revelers on a thrilling journey down memory lane during his 42-year anniversary concert that will take place on the 13th of December, 2024 at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

Renowned events management company Fenon Records known for its sound expertise, extraordinary stage design, and lighting will be handling the production and revelers expect nothing but an unforgettable experience at the superb evening of music and nostalgia.
