Gravity Omutujju addresses UCC’s ban on his music, vents impact on artistic freedom and expression in Uganda

Renowned rapper Gravity Omutujju has spoken out on the recent ban on his music by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), revealing that the move was limiting his creative freedom.

The controversial musician known for his highly explicit lyrics has been criticized for his new single, whose title shocked music lovers. He, however, explained that he had released a number of uplifting and sensible songs that have been ignored by critics.

In his defense, Gravity Omutujju openly expressed his disappointment at UCC stating that the decision was mainly motivated by jealousy from some people who he says were fighting him as a person but hiding behind his music. Nevertheless, he stated that he would adhere to the new rules.

UCC’s news directives prohibit some of Gravity’s songs from being played on the media or performed publicly, and any party that does not adhere to these rules will face penalties for non-compliance.

Despite the warning, Gravity Omutujju vows to continue releasing all kinds of music just like he has been doing as he believes that his art is a perfect reflection of not only his creativity and individuality.

Gravity Omutujju

I have diversified in my music. I have sung about different things and I’m still doing the same. Music is art and one man’s meat is another man’s poison. I will still release my music just the way I have been doing; release the inspirational music and also do the music that people think is explicit.

I feel bad about it because I want to perform all my music everywhere but they are limiting me and it is greatly affecting me. The songs they stopped me from performing are loved in some other environments. It bothers me but I obviously have to follow the news directives. There are many jealous people who are not pleased with what we do. This situation has shown me that many people are not even fighting against the song but me as a person, Gravity Omutujju revealed.
