Hon. Rebecca Kadaga launched the second edition of the Miss Curvy Uganda beauty pageant 2022-2013 at Mosa court in Kampala.
The Miss Curvy Uganda beauty pageant was primarily founded to break the chain of stigmatization that surrounded plus-size women in the country as well as to attract more tourists and increase revenue earnings.
However, a segment of Ugandans who felt that women are not a tourist attraction or an object for pleasure harshly criticized the maiden edition, which was launched in 2019.
Despite the criticism that surrounded the pageant, the competition went down with the backup of the then State Minister for Tourism, Mr. Godfrey Kiwanda.
Only 24 competitors made it to the competition’s final phase, which was hosted at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala out of a total of 140 attractive women who signed up.
Nansasi Belinda emerged as the winner, walking away with a Jeep Cherokee, a fully sponsored trip to Turkey, and a full scholarship to pursue a master’s degree of her choice at Victoria University in Kampala.
