Veteran gospel singer Judith Babirye has expressed her regret in pursuing a political career.
Judith Babirye is one of the best gospel musicians Uganda has ever produced thanks to her musical prowess and deep spiritual conviction.
However, midway through her journey of serving through gospel music, Judith Babirye embarked on a political career, a decision she regrets making.
Babirye was elected Member of Parliament representing Buikwe District Women Constituency in the 10th Parliament 2016–2021.
While appearing in an interview, Judith Babirye revealed that veering off the musical course to pursue politics was detrimental to her career, as it deprived her of her freedom to connect with people.
She noted that during her political tenure, she missed rubbing shoulders with people she shares backgrounds with like Bobi Wine, Erias Lukwago, and Nabakooba among others as her position exempted her from the freedom of associating with them.
She stressed that her music resonates with people of different political spectrums, but pursuing politics was disapproved by a section of her followers and fans.
Judith Babirye emphasized that she does not consider herself a politician, but rather a servant of God. Furthermore, she mentioned that she ditched politics as it hindered her services as a God’s servant.
