The late Evelyn Lagu’s son, Freddie Kasavu was finally checked out of a rehabilitation center where he had been admitted to seek immediate medical attention for his mental disorders.
In September 2023 Evelyn Lagu succumbed to kidney failure leaving behind her 20-year-old son. Her untimely death saw her son face challenges in making ends meet since it was his mother providing him with all his basic needs.
While severally appearing in new interviews, Kasavu Fred confessed choking on bills before being checked into a rehabilitation center earlier this year to deal with schizoaffective disorder, a mental condition he was diagnosed with long before his mother died.
By this time, Freddie Kasavu says he had stopped taking his medication when the crisis hit him.
Freddie Kasavu having improved and stabilized, was discharged from the institution. On his arrival at his late mother’s house, he realized an unknown person had encroached on their land, grading away most of the property behind their house and also part of their compound.
When I went back home, I found that they had taken over the rear part of our house, the well, the water tank, all these were taken. I do not know why it happened but everything was destroyed, Freddie Kasavu said.
Being a young orphan, who solely depended on his late mother, Freddie Kasavu believes that the perpetrators were using this chance to intimidate him and take away all that his mother had worked for before her demise. He further revealed that all this injustice was done as he was getting out of rehab and had stabilized with a fully functioning brain.
I think they had planned it all out and when it happened, people came around and cried because they knew how hard my mum had worked to leave something behind, he said.
One of late Evelyn Lagu’s best friends and actor Sserunkuma Moses Bbosa who has been supportive since the deceased’s diagnosis of kidney failure, revealed that they were currently investigating the matter to find the culprits who he says did everything out of order because the land was legally purchased by the late singer.
I heard about it and visited the place. We have not yet received answers as to why it happened and we are currently looking for the person responsible for that because the late was not under any debt for that land. It was fully paid for and there are supporting documents for all these, he said.
