Singer Lydia Jazmine left the audience startled after she called out an events promoter for failing to pay her the money they had agreed for her performance.
The sultry singer had a performance in Ishaka and had to drive all the way to the venue, Western Uganda where she was meant to entertain her fans over the weekend.
Despite being fixed on the event’s poster as a performer, her fees were not cleared and she had no choice but to refuse to perform.
When it was her time to sing, Lydia Jazmine came out from her car and stepped on stage and while her fans were excited to see her, she had to let them know she would not be performing for them. She, however, had to show up to avoid being accused of disrespect and failure to turn up for the scheduled show.
I have just come to quarrel. I was just there all this while waiting to perform but these people have refused to pay me. The promoter doesn’t want to pay me to sing for you and after he will say I deliberately refused to show up. Why would you promote an artist you can’t afford? I came here because of my fans that I respect so much; that is why I had to come up here, she said.
Lydia Jazmine then decided to perform just three songs because of the love for her fans who had come out in big numbers and paid their money to watch her sing.
I have never done this to anyone but they have pissed me off. Afterwards they will say artists do not turn up. Don’t do this to artists, she said.
According to the promoter, Lydia Jazmine allegedly came to the show very late when the fans were exhausted late at night. He refused to give her the balance, leading to her bursting out.
This is not the first time an artist openly calls out a promoter on stage asking for their money amidst their performance. Spice Diana and Amooti Omubalanguzi recently did the same.
