From secular to gospel: Maureen Kabasita disapointed by church rejection over her past

Singer Maureen Kabasita has opened up on the challenges she has constantly faced ever since she decided to turn her life to Christ.

Maureen Kabasita rose to notoriety following her participation in the Tusker Project Fame season three. After a month, she got her big breakthrough in music with ‘Kasengejja’ under a fusion band.

She later released several songs before she disappeared off the scene. Upon resurfacing, Maureen Kabasita revealed that she was going through a transition from being a secular to a complete gospel artist.

Speaking to Spark TV, the singer revealed that despite releasing gospel music, fellow gospel artists and gospel events organisers continue to judge her based on her past life. With this, they have still failed to accept her as a changed person.

“Some people in church look at me and judge me and wonder why I’m in church. They told me people would discriminate against me and I have seen it. Gospel artists and events organizers are not willing to include me and do not give me the microphone. But with time if I continue releasing songs, they will have no option,” she said.

Kabasita was one of the female stars who got attention from music fans, especially the male gender, because of her physical appearance. Even when she garnered a number of fans, she revealed that her fans refused to adapt to the fact that she could no longer give them the appeal she used to.

“The challenge I’m facing right now is the crossover from secular where I’m known into gospel. Music fans do not change; they want you to stick to where they have known you,” she noted.

Kabasita’s decision to resort to church was after she underwent a tough situation, and giving her life to Christ looked like her only hope.

She is now back in the industry with a gospel song dubbed ‘Anjagade’ featuring pastor Mukisa. She has other gospel songs like Nzize, Gwe Wanonda, and many more in the pipeline.
