Messe Bontwe’s sudden death leaves his family struggling with a $20,000 bill to return his body to Uganda

Ever since the sad news about the death of veteran comedian DJ Messe Bontwe, real name Nicholas Mpirwe broke out, his relatives are still looking for ways to have his body transported from the US to his ancestral home for burial because of the high bill involved.

The family gathered at the deceased’s home in Kabwooma, Makindye Division to look for ways on how to raise USD 20K which they say is needed to repatriate his body back to Uganda for a proper send-off.

“He died far away from home and to get him back, we need an amount not less than $20k,” his elder brother noted.

Messe Bontwe died on Thursday last week from a heart attack and his family members noted that when they got the news, they thought it was all jokes because the deceased was a comedian known for his numerous skits.

‘Our brother was never sick of anything. In fact, that the day he died, we even spoke to him until we heard the unfortunate news of his death. As a family we have lost a very powerful person in our family, a close relative said.

Family members revealed they were very much affected by Messe Bontwe’s death because he had been a pillar of strength holding the family together.

He helped us as much as our brother. Personally, he was responsible for my children’s school fees including my son who is currently doing his Masters’ Degree in Civil Engineering. He helped him enroll and has been paying tuition, his sister said.

Alex Natuhwera, Messe Bontwe’s young brother has described the deceased as one of the selfless and kind people who had previously come through and cared for many people in need.

He had a good heart and has helped so many people. Many of us have gone through his hands. We call upon everyone who knows him, artists, friends, the comedy industry, those who he has worked with, I believe if we work together and join hands, we can raise money to have his body brought back to Uganda safely, he said.
