Raising musician Moon Kelly with his lawyer Namakajo Deric Fredric of GM Kibirige & Company Advocates have issued a notice of intention to sue Gravity Omutujju, real name Gereson Wabuyi over the allegations of stealing his song.
Moon Kelly, real name Male Badru from Masaka released his song dubbed ‘Kyokolo’ on 9th October 2024 and published it on his YouTube and TikTok accounts. The song was written and sung by Moon Kelly himself with the audio produced by Montez and Trixx.
Last week Moon Kelly woke up to devastating news that rapper Gravity Omutujju had redone the song with the same rhythms and the same song title, something that is considered as infringing on the rights of a creative.
He uploaded his rendition on YouTube on 11th November 2024 and shared it on TikTok too, hiring influencers to make the song viral just a month after Moon Kelly dropped his own.
According to counsel Fredrick, there was something sinister about Gravity Omutujju’s version because originally, when an artist releases a song, he always credits the producer but Gravity did not give a shout-out to producer Baur from the start to the end, making it clear that he did not want to be apart of the drama.
Moon Kelly’s lawyers issued a demand notice to Gravity Omutujju ordering him to pull down the audio from all his social media platforms where it was uploaded, to go on all mainstream media platforms, and apologize to Moon Kelly for messing with his craft and also compensate him with the sum of UGX 50,000,000 for the loss and damage caused to Moon Kelly as a result of this infringement.

Failure to comply with the above-outlined concerns within four days, the lawyers will have no choice but to initiate legal proceedings against Gravity Omutujju under the Copyright and Neighboring Rights Act, CAP 222 seeking legal remedies available.
