Mudra D Viral reveals he rejected the musicians’ federation because of his fans’ disapproval

Mudra D Viral has revealed that he made the decision not to join the Eddy Kenzo-led Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), fronting his fans’ negative insight about the umbrella.

The federation was established in 2023 with an aim of uniting artists nationwide and advocating for the amendment of the copyright law meant to benefit the industry. However, it has faced a lot of criticism for allegedly straying from its initial purpose and being driven by financial interests.

The ‘Balo Balo’ hitmaker has chosen to prioritize his fans’ opinions, noting that he respects and loves them too much to ignore their concerns.

“Personally, I love my fans, however few they are. Whatever thing they feel I’m doing and it is going against them, I do not do it,” Mudra D Viral said ahead of his concert.

Mid this year, the federation was reportedly handed Ugx 5 billion to help alleviate the financial burden of artists. This has sparked criticism within the industry and several artists like Azawi, Nina Roz, and Moses Matovu, among others, have queried it. A section of netizens also believe that this money is just a burden to the taxpayer, calling for an end to the federation.

Mudra D Viral maintains that he will not compromise his values or betray his fans who oppose the federation’s mission because of the coalition’s leaders who they say are more focused on personal gain.

“Most of them feel the federation is not good for the people, they think that the people there are exploiting them, so I do not want that. People think when we go to the federation, they give us money, they provide for us, they think it is political, so I do not want to hurt my people. Mudra D Viral noted.
