Songbird Naava Grey has opened up on the time she went through depression, a very rough patch in her life that made her think about abandoning her music career.
The ‘Nteredde‘ hitmaker confessed that when she began her music journey in 2008, a few years in, she faced a lot of criticism from people who doubted her vocals and ability to sustain her career in the competitive industry. The negativity took a toll on her, driving her into depression.
It was at this point that she considered quitting music in 2016 for good to prioritize her mental health.
It took the intervention of a few close friends who kept calling and encouraging her to persevere. Their words of encouragement pushed her to go back to the studio and revive her love for music.

“They said I couldn’t do it, that my voice was not it, that I wouldn’t handle the industry and its problems plus many other things. There was a time in 2016 when I got so depressed and thought I would quit music but still, there was that phone call or a sign telling me to go back to the studio.
It was either an Andy Music, Bruno, or Andy Music call. That is when I realized that it was actually my calling to sing and write. Because I loved music, nothing could stop me,” Naava Grey said.

Naava Grey encouraged fellow artists going through the same problems to not only believe in themselves but also stay focused and dedicated to their art as passion overrides every challenge.
“You should believe in yourself and love what you do. And God most, especially because we are not here by our own means. With little prayer I was able to write lyrics again,” Naava stated.
Naava Grey will be celebrating her music career with a concert scheduled for 14th February 2025 at Kampala Serene Hotel in Kampala.
