Renowned politician Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola has been removed from parliament following a decisive court ruling delivered earlier today.
Following the Kawempe North by-elections, Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola was declared victorious, officially replacing the late legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya in parliament.
However, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and its candidate, Hon. Nambi Faridah Kigonogo, petitioned the court over alleged election irregularities.
The petition claimed the Electoral Commission failed to return results from several polling stations, effectively disenfranchising thousands of voters.
Additionally, the petition cited voter bribery, illegal campaigning, and obstruction of voters and officials by the declared winner’s campaign team.

On 26 May 2025, the Kampala High Court nullified Hon. Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola’s Kawempe Division North representative election.
Justice Bernard Namanya, who presided over the case, ruled that the by-election failed to meet the required legal provisions.
The court determined that the election irregularities and malpractices substantially affected the outcome, warranting a complete nullification.

As a result, the Electoral Commission has been ordered to organize and oversee a fresh election in Kawempe North.
