The annual Nyege Nyege Festival hangs in balance following Parliamentary order to stop the event over moral concerns.
The Nyege Nyege Festival that last happened almost three-year back, may not happen due to complaints raised on the parliamentary floor on Tuesday.
According to Tororo Woman MP Hon. Sarah Opendi, the event is aimed at promoting sexual immorality, in the guise of promoting tourism.
Sarah Opendi’s submission was supported by the Speaker of Parliament Hon. Anita Among, who said that the promotion of Tourism should not happen at the expense of children’s morals, before vowing not to allow the function to take place.
We are talking about morality of this country; we are talking about our children. You are trying to promote tourism at the expense of our children? We are not going to allow this function to take part.
Hon. Anita Among
Prior to the development, Nyege Nyege Festival was scheduled to take place in Jinja from the 15 to the 18th of September at the banks of the river Nile at Itanda falls.
