Phina Mugerwa vows to use her influence to combat rising vulgarity in Uganda’s music industry

The Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) secretary, Phina Mugerwa has joined the list of celebrities condemning Gravity Omutujju’s latest vulgar song dubbed “Omunio”

Using her platform and voice as a leader in the music industry, Phina has expressed her concern about the vulgar music that is becoming common in the industry. She noted that explicit content is not suitable for the general public, especially the younger generation.

Phina Mugerwa disgustingly stated that she is fed up with this growing trend and has promised to take action against artists known for releasing such content.

She gave examples of Kadongo Kamu artists way back in the 90s who used clever wordplay to cover up the explicit content that they sang about.

Phina Mugerwa further noted that modern-day artists are too vulgar, something that is embarrassing to the industry. She vowed not to put up with them because they were ruining the music industry.

In regards to the vulgar music, just watch the space because it is too much.I do not even want to pass it (Gravity’s song) through my mouth. We have kids.

Before we even judge others for embarrassing our industry, we are doing it ourselves. When you listen to the music that people used to release those days, even when they wanted to be explicit, they tried so much to cover it up.

For the artists that think will come up and ruin our industry, this is your last warning. We are tired. You have embarrassed the industry when it comes to the trending music right now,” she said.
