As the World prepares for the 70th Miss World Beauty pageant under the theme “Beauty with Purpose”, over 100 countries will have to think of how best to approach the competition with Uganda in mind. This is because Uganda’s last representative to the pageant in 2018, Quiin Abenakyo performed so well that she became 5th overall and 1st in Africa.
This time round Uganda is going all the way to not only make sure the current Miss Uganda holder wins, but also sells the country as a tourism destination.
“We are privileged that the former Miss Uganda did so well. Miss Abenakyo did so brilliantly that we got to host the Miss World team here. Now we want to make sure the world notices we not only have beautiful and intelligent girls, but we also have the best when it comes to tourism attractions” says Tourism Minister Hon. Bahinduka.
Uganda will be represented by Elizabeth Bagaya, a 26 year old holder of Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management and a make-up artist by profession.
Miss Bagaya, who was the first runner up in the last beauty pageant got the nod after the reigning Miss Uganda 2020/2021 Oliver Nakakande opted to go for her studies in Dubai.
And the 26 year old who also runs the Bagaya Elizabeth Foundation that helps to extend financial and mental support to children at Butabika Hospital has a chance to once again wow the world.
And being seeded among the top contenders for Miss World Africa by the bookmakers, the country is urging the beauty queen by giving her send-off to Puerto Rico, the Miss World pageant Host country that will make the world notice.
“We are grateful to Breathtaking Uganda and the Miss Uganda for organizing the sendoff party not only to boost the young girl’s confidence, but also to make sure we use the opportunity to market Uganda,” The Minister added.
The send-off that begun with a beautiful independence getaway trip to the Western side of Uganda, saw Miss Bagaya together with State Minister for Tourism Mr. Bahinduka take a 4 day trip to Lake Mburo, Igongo and Gahiza Island, armed with the camera crew to capture some of the beautiful moments that will be used to showcase Uganda at the finals.
And from 5th to 7th November, the beauty queen who hails from Fort Portal will be at her home city of Fort Portal to be given a befitting homecoming/sendoff by the natives of Fort Portal tourism city at the resplendent Nyaika Hotel as she heads to Puerto Rico for the Miss World beauty pageant at the end of November, 2021.
According to the Speaker of Parliament, the Miss World platform offers us a huge opportunity to lure the rest of the world to Uganda. “Miss World platform is a perfect stage for us to showcase Uganda. We ask Miss Bagaya to be the best she can be. We are behind her” Mr. Oulanya said.
The trip to Fort Portal will be climaxed with a carefully curated gathering of well-wishers and sponsors to celebrate Miss Uganda’s journey and to send her off. It will also be a night of Ugandan fashion, beauty and business communities gathering to dine with her and show her their support.
The send-off trip organized by Breathtaking Uganda, together with Kezzi entertainment the Miss World Uganda franchise owners will also see the team visit several Kabarole Crater Lakes, Sempaya Hot Springs where they will boil eggs, visit Mabere ga Nyinamwiru, Kyeganywa Hilltop and finalize with a visit to Karuzika Palace where the group will have photo opportunitues. On Sunday, the team will pass by Chimpundu Lodge in Kibale National Park for more photo opportunitues.
