The catholic community globally mourns the untimely death of Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who breathed his last on 21 April 2025.
Pope Francis assumed the top leadership of the Catholic Church on 13 March 2013, following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI.
His papal tenure was marked by humility, an emphasis on God’s mercy, international visibility, concern for the poor, and a commitment to interreligious dialogue.
However, his leadership was cut short on Easter Monday, after several weeks experiencing chronic lung disease, including a respiratory crisis, and pneumonia.

The news of his death was broken by the Vatican Camerlengo before spreading widely, generating a somber atmosphere among believers.
