Dancehall artist Nutty Neithan has publicly denounced record labels, calling them ‘liars’ and claiming they prioritize profits over artists’ well-being. He says they lure musicians into signing contracts with promises of fame and fortune, only to exploit them in the end.
The ‘Kwata Echupa’ hitmaker further noted that these contracts artists are lured into signing ultimately benefit the label and just because they always have a lawyer on their side, they will always win at the expense of the artist’s craft.
“Record labels lie to you that they have given you money yet in the end, you would have to pay it back. First of all, they bring you a deal, coarse you into signing a contract without giving you a chance to get a lawyer for yourself. You need your own lawyer because their own will always be on their side,” Nutty Neithan said.
Over the years, we have seen a number of musicians lose their rights to their music after parting ways with record labels. Some are even banned from using their stage names which are rightfully owned by the labels.
Nutty Neithan in this case advises his peers to always have their own lawyers who could read and fully understand the terms and conditions of the contract before they go in for it.
The former Humble Management and Boom-Bark Record Label signee made it clear that he is currently not signed under any label or management but instead has a trusted team of professionals that he works with when it comes to his music.
“I just have a team of friends like Side Soft and others that do not want the limelight. We are just a group of friends on our own terms. Being under management means you have to be under someone, yet personally, I want to be part of everything that I’m doing. It Is better to make a team because then, you get to an understanding, not people thinking for you,” he revealed.
Nutty Neithan joins a growing roster of musicians who have shunned record labels and taken their music careers into their own hands. Many fans, however, believe that this section of entertainers do not work under anyone because of their egos which make them intolerable.

“I do not have a big ego. I’m very humble but I know what I’m worth and I know what I can put on the table. I also know what people can and cannot do for me,” Nutty Neithan disagreed.
