Ruyonga shares the challenges that came with becoming a born-again christian

Rapper Ruyonga, born Edwin Ruyonga, has opened up on the drastic changes that happened in his life following his born-again transition.

Before his significant transformation, Ruyonga admitted to using drugs back in the US. During his interview with Mr. Henrie, he confessed that departing from the ‘bad boy’ side gave him so much relief because of the heavy load of his ugly past that he was carrying on his back.

Even when he thanks God for deliverance, Ruyonga reveals that he lost significant career opportunities.

“When I switched, I stayed with my guys, but there are a bunch of projects that died; massive projects that I would be eating from now.

They stopped because I wasn’t sure if God wanted me to. If I could turn back, I’m not sure if I would pursue them, because that was the new journey I was on. There were many things in the works under Krukid that were halted. I was now talking about God,” he said.

Ruyonga once considered abandoning his music career during his journey of redemption. He said he would opt for missionary work if God wanted him to, but the response he claims he got from God was just more and more songs.

Ruyonga’s transition also came with abandoning secular music, not only in singing but also in listening to it.

“There is a whole album of Kanye that I failed to listen to, and this was my guy. I tried listening to his music, and everything in my body just reacted. I knew I had flipped,” he said.

Ruyonga also claimed that he started having strange dreams, suggesting that he should relocate back to Uganda because God wanted to use him.

He, formerly known as Krukid, once shared the stage with famous rappers like Wiz Khalifa, 50 Cent, Wu-Tang Clan, Manifest, and Lupe Fiasco, among others.

His life turned around when he became a born-again Christian in the early 2000s. Since then, he has been speaking and preaching the gospel not only with his words, but also through his music in Uganda.
