Renowned videographer Sasha Vybz has had the privilege of working with some of the biggest artists in the music industry both in and outside the country for the years he has been in the game. However, Jose Chameleone’s hit single dubbed ‘Wale Wale’ stands out as the most complex and challenging project of his career.
The video was shot in Moroto District, Northern Uganda near the Uganda-Kenya border, a very remote and rugged terrain that presented numerous challenges to transport equipment and people. Sasha Vybz says they had a team of over 20 people including young children, the many dancers, and in the process, their car broke down.
“That was the most stressful video ever because I had just come back from film school, I was new in the game, and I was a bit young. It was so stressful organizing the video because I remember we had to carry almost twenty people including young kids, dancers, the bouncers and when we got to Karamoja, the car broke down, the equipment got faulty, it rained so much on that day,”
Jose Chameleone had not only traveled for the video shoot but also had a performance that night. With a tight deadline, Chameleone and his team had to work against the clock to capture the perfect shots.
Sasha Vybz further notes that Chameleone reportedly quit the video shoot in the middle of the day because he had to rest and re-energize for the night show. The shoot that was meant to happen for one day was extended to day 2 because of the unfavorable conditions.
“Jose Chameleone was so tired and wanted to quit. It was hot, we were on set at around 1 PM and Chameleone told me to leave him alone so that he could go to sleep, he left. I totally understood him because he had a show that night and he was so tired. We stayed patching up and had to plan again for the second day and return to Kampala that very day,” Sasha Vybz said.
Despite the obstacles, Sasha Vybz was determined to bring Chameleone’s creative vision to life, and in October 2014, the much-anticipated ‘Wale Wale’ video was released. The end result was visually stunning with colorful scenes showcasing the beauty of the motherland.
Chameleone even made it more appealing with his celebratory dance moves, backed up by well-choreographed traditional dancers from the North. It paints a perfect picture of the social problems of the nation well wrapped in a triumphant mood.
It exceeded expectations and huge credit goes to Shasha Vybz for the amazing picture quality, beautiful angles, and editing skills.
