Mother to fast-rising songstress Shakira Shakiraa, born Shakira Kyebalaba has come out to defend her daughter against indecency and nudity claims. Shakira has been known for her signature style of dressing in skimpy and revealing clothes since breaking into the music industry, something contrary to her religion as a Muslim.
Shakira Shakiraa’s mother while attending Club Ambiance proprietor Joseph Kiyimba and his wife Annet’s wedding supported her daughter’s fashion choices, stating that she has no problem with what her daughter puts on and claims that those who criticize her are jealous of her curvaceous body. She also noted that she sometimes buys these revealing outfits for her to put on.
Shakira’s mother’s defense comes amidst ongoing criticism of her choice of clothes in both her videos and during her performances.
In July, she teamed up with Luga Flow rapper Gravity Omutujju on a song titled ‘Doozi’, sparking controversy due to its rated lyrics.
The video that was shot in a hospital setting shows Gravity taking up the doctor role and examining Shakira who acts as the patient. In a number of scenes, Shakira can be spotted bending over seductively as she complains about the discomfort that comes with the doctor’s medical expertise.
This attracted the attention of the doctors under the Uganda Medical Association who called for the ban on the song. They explained that it was not only morally inappropriate but also disrespectful to their profession.
Socialite Prima Kadarshi also weighed in on the controversy, referring to Shakira Shakiraa and Gravity’s collaboration as a ‘real example of when two empty tins meet’. This sparked a heated exchange between both parties.
