Sheebah Karungi addresses claims that Karma Music was a scam, confirms artists are under mentorship

After breaking away from Jeff Kiwa’s Team No Sleep camp, Sheebah Karungi moved on to form her own music label, Karma Music UG, unveiling plans to sign and mentor new talent through the label.

In August last year, the label was officially unveiled during a press conference at Terrace Bar, Acacia Avenue with Fik Fameica, Chosen Beck, Naava Grey, Artin Pro, and herself as judges during the competition.

With no updates for more than a year since the launch, social media was awash with speculations that the project was merely a publicity stunt.

During her just-concluded press conference ahead of her upcoming ‘Neyanzinza’ concert, Sheebah clarified that she had indeed selected two artists and has been working closely with them to prepare for their debut.

Sheebah Karungi assured fans that the artists are currently busy in the studio, recording and shooting videos, and may even make a special appearance at her concert.

Sheebah Karungi
Everyone around me knows I take time doing my things so that they come out just the way I want. I do not want to introduce someone to you just before we are prepared, just because I’m Sheebah.

I chose a lady and a man and they are busy in the studio, shooting videos while preparing themselves so that by the time they come out, they are ready. They may not fully be there but they will have got somewhere and able to give you something you can enjoy. You never know they might perform at my concert, Sheebah Karungi said.

When asked about the potential for her rookies to compete internationally, Sheebah Karungi acknowledged the challenges of breaking into the global world. She emphasized the significant financial investment only required by the government, a resource that is lacking in Uganda.

Despite the challenges, she expressed her hope for future support and opportunities for her artists to shine on a global scale.

People do not know that breaking out on the international scene needs a lot of money. These days to compete internationally, you have to be with money yet in other countries, their governments come through to invest money.

We hope one day out Art industry will have the government support, let’s say they find five top artists in the country and sponsor them for two collaborations with very big artists all over the world, that will put our artists high up there amongst competition.

We may not be earning enough from our concerts to afford such. I want them to step up and invest so that we go to the next level,” she said.
