Musician Sophie Nantongo has encouraged artists to look up to her and draw inspiration from her lyrical maturity when composing songs with appropriate content.
Sophie Nantongo spoke to Spark TV during her visit to the Buganda Royal Kingdom in Mengo. In a brief presser, she expressed her disgust towards fellow artists who have made it a norm to release vulgar lyrics.
The ‘Super Love’ hitmaker noted that the vulgar music sung in the Luganda language tainted the image of their culture and is disgusting to the consumers.
She went on to explain the diversity of the Luganda language, which she says has different phrases that can convey the same message.

Sophie Nantongo bragged about respecting cultural norms and living an exemplary life through her music. With this, she permitted her colleagues to look to her as an inspiration if they wanted to improve their craft.

“Musicians use a lot of obscene language that leaves listeners who have come to be entertained wondering. People will still understand you if you deliver your message with fewer obscene words. Luganda is so broa,d and you can use some other phrases to communicate your message without being necessarily vulgar. I want to encourage artists to look up to me because I, alone, can not exhaust the beauty of our beautiful language,” she said.
