Stecia Mayanja has narrated the unfortunate events that saw her get rushed into marriage by a stranger, not knowing that he was a con artist who wanted to scam her of her hard-earned money.
Recounting her ordeal, Stecia Mayanja reveals that she met Abbas Mubiru in January 2015 and they only dated for three months when he asked her to be his wife.
Without getting a proper background check, the couple was getting married in March of that same year, not knowing that he was among the group of men who target rich women to scam them for their money.
He (Abbas Mubiru) love-bombed me. Men of his kind ambush you and marry you without contributing any single coin, she narrated.
Stecia Mayanja revealed that she was blinded by Abbas’ physical appearance and the fact that he drove a Benz, not knowing that she was falling into a huge trap. She quickly gave in because was in desperate need of money and thought that she had found someone to bail her out of her financial problems.
By the time he approached me, I had a lot of problems; I had huge debts and my company was collapsing. He rushed me through everything and convinced everyone around me. He was so good looking, drove a Benz and looked responsible; there was no way I would turn him down, Stecia Mayanja said.
Stecia Mayanja got married to Mubiru amidst too much drama and objection from her parents. Her family had initially announced that the function had been canceled because they believed Mubiru was a conman who had no slight interest in marrying their daughter because he had not even paid the bride price.
She, however, went ahead and tied the knot at Kibuli Mosque. Their marriage woes began after Mubiru was constantly arrested over fraud in different cases prompting Stecia to walk away barely a year into their marriage. She accused her husband of bringing shame and embarrassment to her name and also failing to provide for his family.
Stecia reveals that on her wedding day, she wanted to run away after discovering that her family was right but Mesach Ssemakula and Ronald Mayinja stuck around to see to it that the function was successful without her abandoning her guests.
I was looking for a way out. I wanted to run away and my mother was in support but people did not get it. On my wedding day, I was faking smiles and Papa Mesach together with Ronald Maying personally drove the bridal cars because they were stopping me from running away. They just wanted to function to get done, she said.
