Singer and media presenter, Crysto Panda has opened up on how social media platforms especially TikTok have greatly affected the music industry, especially for young artists looking for their big breakthrough.
While he admitted that the platform has greatly pushed these youngsters to fame with just one song, Crysto Panda explained that they fail to make it beyond their online success, suppressing their careers in the end.
Presently, anyone who releases a song, goes through the platform, thus helping them reach a wide audience with little effort, unlike the old days when artists invested heavily in marketing which involved moving to different media houses while distributing their new music to presenters and deejays for promotion.
In his explanation, Crysto Panda emphasized that being famous on TikTok did not equate to mainstream recognition and if an artist wants to broaden his success, they must take an extra step and work with different media outlets like radio, deejays, and TV stations to get airplay beyond social media.

“But the problem is, that your song might hit on TikTok and you stay there. But you still need to get into the mainstream of which you need connections. Your hook might trend but you need the whole song to be known and that needs mainstream media.
It is a big problem in music because when a young artist becomes popular on TikTok, they think it is the same story in the whole country. They do not make an effort to visit media houses thinking they are known everywhere. With this, their potential goes down.
The best thing would have been if you blew up, to use it as an opportunity to reach out to media streams. Let that open doors for you,” Crysto Panda said.
