Following grievances from several voters, the Uganda Musicians’ Association (UMA) electoral chairperson Geoffrey Ekongot has called off the process.
On Monday morning, UMA members countrywide started casting their votes to transform or maintain the prevailing association leadership.
The voting process was conducted through SMS under the USSD code *260#. However, the voting medium was changed from SMS to the association website which also yielded no fruit as anticipated.
This created a rift between various contenders and the association electoral commission, as the former speculated that the confusion was aimed at creating a favorable cheating condition for a candidate of their desire.

After several tries and fails to rectify the technical glitch in the election system, the UMA electoral chairperson used the powers vested in him to halt the voting process amid criticism from the association stakeholders, and all the votes cast were declared null and void.
Through the association’s social media handles, the electoral committee revealed that upon seating with the policy board, they will declare another day to hold the elections.
