The Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) has announced the decision to ban event promoters from booking musicians who have been known for releasing vulgar music.
The bold announcement was made during a press conference chaired by Phina Mugerwa, the Uganda Musicians Association secretary.
According to Phina, the decision was reached after having discussions with the United National Events Promoters Association regarding the matter.
UNCC also agreed that they would approach the courts of law to explore ways of actively implementing the Anti-Pornography Act that has for so long been ignored.
Furthermore, UNCC called upon the Ministry of Education to take action, especially in schools where children are exposed to explicit material during events like speech days.
Phina Mugerwa encouraged schools should use music and performances to instead focus on educational themes such as HIV/AIDS awareness that will help them in the future.
Promoters organizing shows and having such musicians perform, should know that they do not have the permission to work. We want to have them take it (Anti-Pornography Act) seriously because there is a way it will help us with what we want to do.

During our time at school, they used to give us themes to sing about, for example HIV AIDS so that by the time you leave school, you have learned so much about it, she said.
