Uncle Chumi, Bebe Cool

Uncle Chumi defends herself against Bebe Cool’s criticism after heated clash with a DJ

Uncle Chumi has responded to Bebe Cool’s criticism concerning her recent clash with a deejay at one of the shows over the weekend.

The incident occurred in Masaka during a show that Uncle Chumi had been booked to perform. When she reached the stage to perform, the DJ alerted her that he only had one song prepared to play because he didn’t know any others.

This threw Uncle Chumi in a rage, and within no time, she started insulting the deejay before a massive crowd of revellers. Using obscene language, she called out the deejay for discrimination, accusing him of looking out for other artists’ songs and not hers.

Amidst cheers and ululations from fans in the crowd, she threatened to beat up the deejay.

Bebe Cool on his TikTok account called out Uncle Chumi for her uncouth behavior. Relating it to his previous statements that caused a backlash, Bebe Cool warned that Uncle Chumi could easily be blacklisted by deejays, leading to the downfall of her budding career.

She used very obscene language with the deejay. Deejays have an association, and if they decide not to play your music, they will not do it. You’ve seen how fast musicians who assaulted DJs fell off.

“I’m in over six deejay groups, and sometimes I feel sorry when I read certain things. Artists tended to beat up deejays until they united and decided to deal with them,” he said.

They call themselves and talk about how they are treated. Upon discussion in their groups, they can decide not to play your music. However, a DJ can easily ask fellow DJs to help promote an artist they like. And same goes to when you insult them, they blacklist your songs collectively,” Bebe Cool added.

Bebe Cool claimed that the deejays had the power to either drag a disrespectful musician’s career down or help promote their music. He advised fellow artists to trade carefully to avoid the clashes.

Uncle Chumi, however, did not heed Bebe Cool’s warning as she openly trashed it. Addressing the matter during a TikTok live, the ‘Gwokutte Gwobba’ boasted that no artist in the music industry had the right to advise her on how to run her career. She only gave an exception to Maama Fiina, who she says was of great help in her career.

“The only person who has the right to talk about me is Maama Fiina because she is the one who gave me a go-ahead on my career,” she said.

With a nonchalant attitude, Uncle Chumi revealed that she had wasted a lot of time pleasing people, and she felt it was high time she did what she liked too.

“I cannot keep doing what Ugandans like. I have spent a lot of time trying to please them, and I can no longer do it. This is my time to do what I want,” Uncle Chumi said.
