Dancehall singer Vampino has condemned Luzira Upper Prison for chopping off incarcerated Alien Skin’s dreads. It is a standard procedure for all inmates to receive haircuts and as confirmed following his arraignment at the start of this week, Alien Skin is currently bald, something Vampino doesn’t agree with.
Speaking in an interview, Vampino expressed his disappointment stating that they would have considered his profession as an artist before messing with his signature look that made him money. He further noted that the act would affect the image he worked so hard to build.
Knowing that they cut off his dreads has hurt me so much because he is a soldier. These people should first get to understand the kind of business we do as they arrest us.
They should also consider the fact that as an artist, his image makes money. Despite him committing a crime, please consider what makes him make money to survive out there, he said.
Vampino also extended his sympathy towards Alien and explained how his arrest would throw him into a huge debt this Christmas season as he won’t be able to attend many shows that he has been booked into.
He, however, advised fellow artists to avoid moving around with large groups of people (Gaali) who he says can easily commit crimes and land them into problems.

I have been in the industry for a long time, I know that having so many people around you can bring problems like that. One person may mess up and before you even get the chance to correct them, everyone will conclude that it was you because you are their leader. You don’t really need these people. Only move with the ones that are going to help you, he noted.
