Musician Recho Rey, real name Mirembe Racheal, has opened up about her decision to adopt a more feminine fashion sense.
Recho Rey was previously known as a tomboy, a female with typical male characteristics. She always wore masculine outfits and exhibited masculine traits.
For the past six years, however, Recho Rey has drastically changed and has embraced more feminine ways. In an interview with Sanyuka TV, she confessed that in 2019, she sat down with her team and made a decision for her to change her image.
Contrary to the belief that female rappers are always masculine, Recho Rey decided to start acting girly to stand out. Her other aim was to show fellow female rappers that they could be feminine but also gangster.
“We discussed how we could bring out something new in the rap industry. Most female rappers are known as tomboys, which I still am, but we decided to switch up the image to let other female rappers know that you can still be feminine and sexy but at the same time gangster,” she said.

Recho Rey confesses that she has had difficulty adjusting to the new version of herself and sometimes misses her old baggy outfits. On a more positive note, however, it has boosted her confidence and made her appreciate her body more.
“A short skirt was the very first feminine attire I wore, and when I looked at my body in it, I was mesmerized by how good I looked. I was shocked because I had never seen myself from that perspective,” she added.
Recho Rey says she sometimes changes to her old style depending on the circumstances. For example, when she has a TikTok challenge to introduce to her fans, she prefers to put on baggy clothes, which she says are more comfortable.
