World Tourism Day 2024 Launched: Aims at Tourism and Peace

The Uganda Tourism Month and World Tourism Day 2024 have been inaugurated at Fair Way Hotel under the theme “Tourism and Peace.” This theme emphasizes the significance of tourism in promoting unity, development, and harmony within the country.

Hon. Bahinduka Martin Mugarra, the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, highlighted that tourism serves as a vital instrument for connecting individuals, cultures, and communities. It fosters understanding, tolerance, and mutual respect among various groups.

In an era where conflicts frequently dominate headlines, the theme “Tourism and Peace” accentuates the beneficial influence of travel in bridging divides and facilitating dialogue. Tourism plays a crucial role in economic advancement by generating employment, enhancing local enterprises, and attracting investments.

Additionally, it encourages social change through cultural exchanges and community involvement. By advocating for peace, tourism contributes to establishing a stable environment essential for sustainable development.

This World Tourism Day 2024 celebrations will take place in the Rwenzori region, specifically in Kasese. The selection of Kasese is symbolic, as the region has encountered difficulties, including recent attacks, yet it exemplifies resilience and the transformative potential of tourism.
