Ykee Benda, Jazmine, Pia Pounds stand by Sheilah Gashumba amid criticism of lack of local talent support

Musician Ykee Benda and Lydia Jazmine have come out to openly defend media personality Sheilah Gashumba against criticism from fellow artists.

On Wednesday, Sheilah Gashumba caused a stir on social media after sharing her opinion on Diamond Platnumz’s lavish treatment as a guest star at the Coffee Marathon.

In a series of X posts, Sheilah revealed that the expensive welcome that Diamond received was due to the magnitude of his brand. She claimed that no Ugandan artist could outdo him when it comes to performances and style.

After her post went viral, several artists quoted her, criticising her for allegedly downplaying local talents. Celebrities like Judith Heard, Allan Toniks, and Ziza Bafana, among others, went all out to criticize her opinion, saying she had no regard for the industry they had worked hard to promote.

In a post shared on his handle, Ykee Benda called Sheikah Gashumba one of the most, if not the most, influential people on the entertainment scene for the last decade. He explained that no other person has ever supported Ugandan musicians like her, but in turn, she has not been appreciated enough.

“You could take two years without talking to Sheilah and when she lands on that fire sound, she still reaches out. This has happened to me more than 10 times, you don’t even have to be her friend. So, let’s leave the blame game for once,” read part of his post.

He further reminded fellow musicians that Sheilah was not their problem, but instead they should use this time to check themselves. Ykee tagged their underdevelopment on the fact that they are undivided.
