Acidic Vokoz reveals he started singing Luganda to please his ex, inspiring his song ‘Nkulinako Crush’

Fast-rising singer Acidic Vokoz real name Mutwahilu Kakaire has opened up on the surprising inspiration behind his bold decision to start doing music in Luganda, a language that pushed him to stardom.

The youngster who openly confessed to being a hopeless romantic, shared a story of how a heartbreak from the love of his life forced him to abandon Lusoga for the new challenge.

Born and raised in the East, Acidic Vokoz was deeply in love with his then-girlfriend, but she didn’t see a future with him since he was so broke and sleeping in an orphanage. Since she wanted someone with stability and success, it was so easy for her to lose interest in the relationship, leaving Acidic Vokoz bitter and heartbroken.

When he tried to get closure, the girl blatantly opened up to him about how she had issues with him singing in Lusoga instead of Luganda, a language that was used by other artists that she fancied.

“I really loved her but if you do not have money, they leave you. She gave up on the relationship because she did not see a future with me. I was a broke singer and producer who did my music in Lusoga until she told me that she loved my music but had issues with me singing Lusoga.
I felt offended because I loved my language. So, I thought to myself that maybe I didn’t deserve her because she was a class above me. It hurt so bad but I didn’t blame her,” Acidic Vokoz said.

The ex-girlfriend’s criticism of his music fueled his anger and determination and on that particular evening, he hit the studio, recording a song in Luganda dubbed ‘Nkulinako Crush’ in 2022 to prove to her that he could actually do what she wanted.

“I went to the studio with a lot of anger, got my beats, and composed a song just to show her that I could sing Luganda. I imagined that she had dumped me and I was singing to my new woman who didn’t know Lusoga. I used all the pain to come up with the lyrics from my heart. I sang the song pleading to her, I even cried so much in the studio until morning. In just one day, the song was done,” Acidic said.

Eager to have her listen to this new emotional masterpiece, Acidic Vokoz sent the demo via messages to the girl with an aim of winning her back but he was completely ignored.

“She did not reply to me. I’m not pessimistic; I thought she was busy with work so I called to let her know and when she listened to it, she just said it was okay,” he revealed.

Acidic Vokoz further noted that he was disappointed with her plain response so he sent the song to his sister abroad and without his knowledge, she gave it to some TikTokers who released the song on the platform. Within no time, the song was all over social media with people asking who the talented singer with an amazing song was.

“People started asking me about the viral song on TikTok with my name. I wondered how the song had gone out there so I loaded data and went on the app. I didn’t even know how to use it and I created the account that same day but it was massive; four videos back-to-back had my song,” Acidic Vokoz said.

This song’s popularity sparked his turning point, transforming him from a broke musician to a household name at just 22 years old that year. He has gone ahead to release more love songs that have resonated with music fans, leading to his unexpected viral success.

The fast-rising artist will be holding his debut concert dubbed ‘Ndi Musoga’ at one of the biggest concert venues, Lugogo Cricket Oval on 30th August at UGX. 20K ordinary, 50K VIP, and a table for UGX. 2 million.
