Eddy Kenzo, Phiona Nyamutoro

Eddy Kenzo proposed on our second business meeting – Phiona Nyamutoro shares genesis of their love story

In a heartwarming speech, the honorable Minister of State for Minerals, Phiona Nyamutooro has opened the lid on the captivating story of how she met and fell in love with musician Eddy Kenzo to the point of getting married.

The couple’s relationship became a center of discussion a few months ago but they did not publicly agree until they showed up at her swearing-in ceremony hand in hand. This was when they officially let the cat out of the bag and have been inseparable since then.

Nyamutoro says she met the Big Talent boss strictly for business and she had no idea what to expect from him. Assuming Eddy Kenzo would be a short man, she was surprised to find otherwise. However, their initial encounter was brief before they called it a day.

“He had asked me to meet for some time but I was so busy. When I met him, somehow my mind thought I would meet a very short guy, I do not know why. When he walked into the room, I was surprised that he was actually tall. He introduced himself and I kept looking at his height,” she said.

As their discussions went on, Nyamutooro confessed that she was blown away by how much of a serious and over-ambitious man Eddy Kenzo was, challenging his poor background.

“At that time, I wasn’t bothered about the way he looked because our first meeting was entirely business but I was impressed with the way he looked at life. And I was wondering how a guy who has a background like his looks at life this way. It didn’t make sense to me,” she revealed.

When they met for the second time as a follow-up on their first meeting, Eddy Kenzo unexpectedly proposed marriage. Nyamutoro, who barely knew him, was taken aback, having never imagined dating a musician in her life.

“Then the second meeting that was supposed to be business as well ended up being an offensive marriage proposal. We were still strangers at that time, meeting for the second time and then we were pursuing business that we had talked and then this love nigga says that he wants to marry me.

“I looked around to see if he was talking to somebody else or he was practicing for someone else because in my mind I imagined me and a musician, there was no way,” she laughed out loud.

Despite the surprise, she eventually accepted his proposal and they began their journey together. The couple had their secret Kukyala ceremony at Nyamutooro’s parents’ home in  Buziga, a Kampala suburb a step closer to officiating their relationship.

As they plan for their introduction and wedding, Nyamutooro feels it was the best decision she has ever made and she describes her husband as one of the people with the biggest hearts.

“But over time I got to know Eddy as a person and I think next to my late grandmother, he is one of those people that has the biggest hearts I have ever seen. He is a giver; Eddy will give and not get tired of giving. To the extent that sometimes I worry, I’m equally a giver but Eddy is top-notch,” she noted.

Hon. Nyamutooro narrated her seemingly perfect love story to the special guests who had come together to celebrate the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president, Eddy Kenzo upon his appointment as the presidential advisor on creatives.

The exclusive invites-only party was held at one of the exquisite hangout spots in Muyenga, where a few members of Eddy Kenzo’s social circle celebrated his new achievement.
