Events promoter Abbey Musinguzi famously known as Abitex Promotions has been arrested by Uganda Police following a stampede at Freedom City which claimed a number of lives.
On 1st December, the country was struck with the sad news of the demise of a number of revelers who had stormed Freedom City to be part of the new year’s eve festivities.
According to the Police report which was issued following the development, it revealed that when the time struck midnight, the event’s emcee urged revelers to head outdoors and witness the fireworks display.
This was followed by a stampede, which resulted in the death of 10 people and others injured, including juveniles.
Following the intensive police investigation, the promoter behind the event Abitex Promotions was arrested and locked up as the hunt for other event organizers escalates.
The Police spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed Abitex’s arrest while addressing journalists at the police headquarters in Naguru this afternoon.

Enanga revealed that Abitex will be charged with negligence that could have caused the death of 10 people.
Police further stressed that they are also pondering charging similar cases against the parents of children below 18 years who lost their lives in the stampede.
