Kapeke argues against releasing music albums, stating the approach is outdated

Fast-rising singer Kapeke, born Nsubuga Derrick has rubbished the traditional idea of artists releasing studio albums and Extended Plays (EP) saying it is old-fashioned and only done by senior/aged artists. Instead, the 25-year-old star notes that he is concentrating on releasing his singles to build his catalog.

Kapeke, who has already been trending with several hit songs, believes that the idea of albums is outdated and doesn’t make sense. He tagged it to artists from the past, listing A Pass as an example of artists who take pride in dropping studio albums.

“EPs and Albums are for old people; people like A Pass because I was in primary two when he released ‘Mariana’ which means he is very old. Maybe when I get old too, I will think about dropping an album.  For Azawi, she is not old but works with old people. I say this because I grew up hearing album launches from bands of those days like Eagles production so it got stuck in my mind that such things are for old people,” Kapeke said.

Currently boasting a catalog with hit songs like Swiriri, Shuu, Wenazifuna, Akasanyalaze, and Polokoto among others, Kapeke revealed that he is focusing on dropping more single songs to pave the way for concerts in the future.

He noted that he couldn’t announce a concert with a limited catalog, therefore giving himself enough studio time to come up with hits that he could perform for his fans on that day.

“I’m seriously thinking about holding that concert but I first wanted to lay back until I increase my music catalogue. I so far have only five songs and I cannot step on stage for a solo concert with only those few songs. I want my fans to enjoy my concert,” he said.
