Renowned vocalist Melody Uganda-born Manson Kakooza has spoken out about his journey and claims that he turned into Jose Chameleone’s backup singer. Despite being a talented singer in his own right, he says he has found prestige in accompanying and supporting the Leone Island boss on stage.
Melody’s career began over a decade ago when he won Bobi Wine’s talent search competition, but unfortunately, the promised opportunities were never fulfilled. He was later discovered and signed by music promoter Sipapa under Sipapa Entertainment who financed his ‘Nkoleki’ collaboration with Jose Chameleone, leading to a hit song.
Music lovers projected that he would be the next big thing in the Ugandan industry but unfortunately, his career stagnated until he parted ways with the promoter and reunited with Jose Chameleone who has since been taking him on different stages and giving him a chance to perform for his huge crowd.
Some critics suggested that Melody abandoned his solo but promising career to become Jose Chameleone’s backup singer, something that he disagrees with.
He believes that it is an honor and a dream of every artist out there to share the same stage with such an amazing music icon like Jose Chameleone.
It is not bad if I’m Jose Chameleone’s backup artist. Everyone desires to be that. Tell me who doesn’t want to be on the same stage with him and back him up with even one song. Even the BET material Weasel gets on stage and backs Jose Chameleone, with all the respect he has in the music industry besides being his brother. Why haven’t you asked all these artists doing the same thing? Why me? Melody questioned.
Melody Uganda further denied the allegations that his career had gone down the drain and instead, he chose to become Jose Chameleone’s errand boy.
He argues that success is not solely measured by releasing hit songs daily, but by the opportunities and experiences one has in the industry. He proudly notes that he has performed on bigger stages and achieved milestones that some of the prominent artists have not had the chance to access.

Am I not successful? That is the problem with Ugandans, they want an artist to release music all the time. Not everyone who does this is the most successful in the industry. I have a lot of things that I have done in the music industry that many of your artists with hit songs do not have. I have waved the Ugandan flag in more places than these so-called successful artists. I have stood on many bigger stages than them, he noted.
