Dancehall singer Mikie Wine, also younger brother to Bobi Wine has made a difficult decision to stop printing more banners for his upcoming ‘Tusabaale’ concert after he found a group of malicious people destroying them. With the concert date clashing with Gravity Omutujju’s annual concert at different venues, tensions have risen between the two camps.
According to the Sulubada High School boss, he cleared his concert with KCCA, fulfilling all requirements but was shocked when a boda boda rider showed him a video of these unidentified people with hidden number plates cutting through his posters with sharp objects. To make matters worse, they were replacing them with those of his competitor, Gravity.
“They made sure they pinned another poster close to mine the following day. I do not want to get into that drama of mentioning that artist because they have done it almost everywhere in the city even at my concert venue, people close by can attest to that,” Mikie Wine addressed the issue.
Initially, an events promoter was meant to handle the concert, but they failed to agree on some issues. Firmly, Mikie Wine took on the responsibility himself, investing a huge amount of money. However, due to the constant destruction of his posters and banners, he has stopped printing more because he is already stretching his budget and the deliberate act of vandalism is making it next to impossible to continue.
“Ugandans should forgive me but I have stopped printing banners because as a promoter of my own concert, I have very little money to waste on printing something that will be destroyed the next day.”
“They may be having a lot of money for their posters but me, I’m just waiting on the money my fans are going to give me.
If I’m to replace all the banners (more than 300), that is a lot of money yet I have to pay the service provider, the venue, I have just decided to leave that for God,” he revealed.
