Pallaso reveals earning only Ugx 10M from 800M in caller tune revenues, calls out telecom companies for fraud

Team Good Music singer Pallaso, born Pius Mayanja has called out Uganda telecom companies for allegedly ripping him off the revenues he made from the caller tunes, claiming he made 800 million but was only paid a cheque of 10 million.

Giving a breakdown, Pallaso revealed that a caller tune costs 700 Ugx but the money is divided with a certain percentage going to VAT, excise duty, platform fee, and the company collects almost 70% in revenue, leaving only 100 Ugx to be shared between the artist and the aggregator.

So, every time they bring me a check of 10 million, it means I have made 800 million for them. I wish to get into this and create a platform. They keep saying Nigerian artists are far beyond us yet they are cheating us this way, Pallaso said.

For a long time now, Ugandan musicians have rallied to fight for the copyright law that is bound to help the entire entertainment industry and see creatives earn from their craft.

Pallaso believes when they put politics aside and speak up collectively, they will be able to actualize their goal.

These caller tunes make a lot of money. Government takes almost 50% tax but who invented this law that they are supposed to collect this much? This has to change and it will not change with us just talking. We have to be in parliament speaking up. But people are politicizing this. This doesn’t benefit only me. If we are to earn fairly, we would be very far.

We as artists, we are working hard and you can’t be giving me this little. This will not only help me alone; but every artist. We need to come together and if we do not do it now, we will never achieve it,” Pallaso claimed.
