Dokolo District Woman MP Cecilia Ogwal, aged 77, passed away on 18 January 2024, causing immense grief among her friends and relatives.
Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal has been a prominent figure in Ugandan politics, as well as a successful businesswoman and management consultant.
Last week, Cecilia Ogwal fell ill with a terminal illness and was subsequently flown to India for medical treatment, before losing the battle to the ailment.
The sad news of her untimely demise was broken by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Uganda Thomas Tayebwa.
Her passing has left various sectors in mourning, and heartfelt condolences continue to pour in.
From 1985 to 1992, she served as the Acting Secretary General of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC). Additionally, she played a crucial role in the drafting of the 1995 Constitution as a member of the Constituent Assembly.

During the 2006 parliamentary elections, Ogwal lost her Lira Municipality seat to Jimmy Akena. However, in 2011, she emerged victorious as the Women’s Representative for Dokolo District on the ticket of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party.
As of now, details regarding her funeral arrangements remain limited, but we shall keep you posted as more information becomes available.
